Biography

Skittles is a handsome, active little guy looking for a cagemate. He can see his neighbor parakeets and wants to hang out with them (however, they have physical restrictions so cannot play with him). He is very active in his flight cage and enjoyable to watch. He has a nice voice and will quietly chat with the neighboring birds throughout the day. Skittles will signal to his foster mom if he needs assistance by perching as close as possible in his cage and making prolonged eye contact. Very polite requests! He does not shy away from hands or movement, but is not yet excited about touching humans. Skittles has experimented heavily with fruits and vegetables, but so far only broccoli has gotten nibbled. He is currently on a mix of seed and harrisons pellets, and he does eat his pellets. He enjoys millet spray in moderation. He will dip into a very indirect and light misting, but currently is not a bath enthusiast. A few droplets on his feathers is more than enough in his opinion. He enjoys supervised sunning when the weather is nice.

In nature, parakeets (budgerigars) live in large flocks. A single bird in a cage spends much of his/her life being lonely because humans have things they must do that take them away. We therefore will only adopt a single parakeet to a household if there is already at least one parakeet living there. Otherwise, parakeets must be adopted in groups of two or more.
