The UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine will host its second annual pet adoption event in partnership with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF). This multi-species adopt-athon will feature free vaccinations and primary care for newly adopted pets, and free veterinary exams and microchips for all pets. Fun-filled family activities such as an animal photo booth, canine agility ring and demonstrations on pet CPR, service dogs, the Davis police K9 unit, and large animal disaster rescue round out the afternoon.
Each year, 10 million animals in the United States are brought to shelters and nearly half are euthanized due to lack of space, with many rescue organizations being unable to keep up with the demand. With the generous support of the AVMF, UC Davis veterinary students and local veterinarians are able to put their veterinary oaths into action by offering the community the opportunity to adopt animals large and small in need of a home, receive veterinary services, and participate in a day of compassion, education, and fun.
